We got a mention in Chartattack.com's Calgary Buzz column this week:
The Summerlad will continue on their quest to play every venue in Calgary within a month by following up this show with an appearance at the Gate on April 29. They are joined by Storyboard and the wonderful (but definitely not Calgarian) Hinterland, who hit the city as part of their Western Canadian tour. The Gate, the student pub on the SAIT campus, is an oddly laid out room, and while it can occasionally resemble the structure and sound of a cavern deep beneath the ground, it has one of the most spectacular views in the city, and cheap drinks too.

WOO-HOO! Kahler is back in business! Big deal, you say? Well, if you had missing and stripped parts for a locking nut or tremolo bridge made by a company that went out of business years ago... I think you'd be pretty excited by this news too! I ordered my replacement parts within minutes of discovering the site. No longer will my guitar go out of tune!
Well, OK... I choose to play a Strat. So I have learned to live with the fact that my guitar isn't going to stay in tune for very long. But at least now it'll hold its tuning a little longer, and changing the strings will no longer be the painful chore it currently is.
I'm happy.

On May 20, Hinterland will headline a show at the Media Club with some fantastic bands, including Ottawa's As the Poets Affirm, and Vancouver's own Hejira and Maplewood Lane. Author Lynn Coady will do a short reading.
On May 10, Hinterland will have the honour of opening for Monade at the Red Room. Ticket info and other details here.
The other day I was in a clothing store in Pacific Centre, and they were playing an Iron & Wine song. After I got over my shock, it dawned on me that it was actually a cover of the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights". Since I am pretty sure I own every Iron & Wine album and EP, I wondered why I had never heard this cover before and where it was available. So I Googled it and found out that it is on the soundtrack to the movie Garden State. Then I became sad at the realization that I have no more interest in seeing said film than I have in watching The O.C.
In short: I am old.

Incidentally, you might find yourself wondering who the guy behind the drum kit is on Saturday. It will be none other than Michael Nathanson (above), on loan from Windows '78 for one show because Gregg couldn't make it.

The promoter tells me that Saturday's show is likely to sell out, so I recommend getting advance tickets, which are available at Scratch, Zulu, and Redcat Records.

I am quoted in a new story about touring posted on SceneandHeard.ca. Read it here.
For all you Vancouver Islanders (or those who just like to follow us around Deadhead-style), Hinterland will be playing at Logan's in Victoria on Saturday night. We're playing with a Victoria band called Chet. I did a live interview on CFUV a few days ago; did anyone hear it?

GHOST HOST!
I had an interesting dream last night. It was sort of like a half-baked plot for some B-grade movie. A popular radio host dies, but then comes back as a ghost. He convinces his radio-station manager to let him continue broadcasting his show, because even though he no longer has a body, he can still use his voice to communicate from beyond the grave. It seems that his death has left his wife and kids in dire financial straits, so he wants to keep doing his show in order to give his paycheques to his family. Because the "ghost host" no longer has a physical body, his manager has to convince the radio station's owners that he is now hosting his show as a remote broadcast from a home studio.
Yes, I realize the utter implausability of this plot. It was a dream! I'm not claiming it was some sort of brilliant idea.
