Is anyone out there...?! WTF?!

Anyhow... I have more pictures to post. And I will do so as soon as my scanner stops making my computer crash.

Sigh...

We actually got another review of our Toronto show, but it was so nonsensical that I'm not going to dignify it by posting it here. However, if anyone out there knows what "velvety chum" is, feel free to enlighten us.

Lest I forget: Windows '78 will be playing at the Lamplighter on Wednesday with Hood and also an early show at the Media Club on Friday, opening for the mighty Mono.

As promised, here are some photos from our Canadian Music Week gig (March 4 at Clinton's in Toronto), courtesy of Scene and Heard's Andrew Horan. Posted by Hello

Rebecca Blissett just send me this great picture of Michaela, which was taken back when we were recording Under the Waterline at Jonathan's place. Gotta love that wide-angle lens! Posted by Hello

And of course, your favourite ZeD segment was Hinterland performing either "Tiger Tiger" or "Inside-Outside", right?

Andrew Horan of Scene and Heard wrote the following review of our recent Canadian Music Week performance:

Hinterland Clinton’s, March 4
Vancouver’s Hinterland made a strong first impression with their Toronto debut, proving that the effusive praise that’s been heaped on their live show is well warranted, thanks in no small part to the gorgeous voice of lead singer Michaela Galloway.
The tiny Galloway ably showed why she was voted best lead singer by the readers of the Georgia Straight, displaying the same amazing vocals that make the band’s excellent debut release, Under the Waterline, such a gem. If you think she sounds amazing on disc wait until you hear her live.
Her ethereal vocals meshed beautifully with the lush moody soundscapes her bandmates crafted, particularly on the smoldering ‘Tiger Tiger’, creating an incredibly hypnotic atmosphere. The band unveiled several new songs with a decidedly more aggressive sound that was reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine.
If this mesmerizing show was any indication we can only hope their first show outside of their hometown won’t be their last.

Andrew also sent me some photos that he took during our set, so I will post those here later. Luckily they are digital files so I don't have to scan the damn things!

Me and my Danelectro Dan-Echo pedal. Actually, I'm pretty sure Gregg took this picture on our last day at Greenhouse (not Vogville), but what the hell... Posted by Hello

Cam shields himself from a deafening wall of feedback. When you hear the end of our version of "For Love", you'll know what I mean. Photo by Gregg. Posted by Hello

Michaela complained that "For Love" had too many lyrics, but she gamely sang them all.

Hinterland recently spent a very long day at Vogville, recording a song for a compilation to be released by the AC30 label. The comp is a collection of classic shoegazer tunes covered by current artists. We recorded a version of "For Love" by Lush. Other artists on the compilation will include Ulrich Schnauss, Ladytron, and Andrew Kenny of American Analog Set . Here's Gregg, bringing the beats. Photo by me. Posted by Hello

WHAT I'M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW
I'm sure everyone is just dying to know which five discs are currently occupying my CD changer. They are:

Brian Eno: Ambient One: Music for Airports
The Summerlad: Themes: International
Low: The Great Destroyer
The Clash: The Singles
Hinterland: "For Love" (more about this later)

And in my car's cassette deck: Listen and Learn Spanish. I have my reasons.

Did I ever mention that Hinterland has a little fan-discussion page at Tribe.net? It's right here. Did I also mention that I am the only one who has ever posted anything there?

From this week's Georgia Straight: "Fans of dream-inducing pop can be forgiven for assuming Hinterland has been in hibernation for much of the winter. After all, the quintet, which received nothing but stellar press for its 2003 debut disc, Under the Waterline, hasn’t been seen on a local stage since last December. Rest assured, though, that Hinterland has been busy, putting the finishing touches on its as-yet-untitled sophomore album, and jetting off to the Centre of the Universe to showcase at the recent Canadian Music Week festival. Those with a love of heaven-sent vocals and crystalline guitars will be happy to hear the group is back from hiatus, at the Piccadilly Pub on Friday (March 11). Opening are local up-and-comers Portico and Go Ghetto Tiger."

There's a plug for our show in the Georgia Straight this week. Here's what it says: "Fans of dream-inducing pop can be forgiven for assuming Hinterland has been in hibernation for much of the winter. If you're anything like me, you'll find yourself strangely transfixed by the Banana Man.

This must be the most in-depth review of Under the Waterline that anyone has written to date.
