Informal, unscientific poll for those familiar with our material: What is your favourite Hinterland song, and why?

Saturday, March 20, 2004

Our thanks to everyone who came out to the Media Club last night. The place was absolutely packed. Mind you, it was packed with incredibly chatty people, but that just gives us all the more appreciation for the precious few who actually listened to the music. You know who you are. Hopefully, you're the same folks who will come out and support our next gig. This is going to be an exciting one, because we're playing with Sciflyer, coming here all the way from San Francisco to make local fans of fuzzed-out shoegazer pop happy. Also on the bill is the very fine Kids These Days. It all takes place at the Purple Onion on April 14. Because that's a Wednesday night, we're planning to make this an early show, with the doors opening at 8 p.m. and the rock commencing at 9.

Our song "Red-Light Camera" is one of the featured tracks this week on the CBC Radio 3 site, along with songs by Microbunny, Controller Controller, and my one of my favourite Guitaro tunes, "Solar Scars".

THIS JUST IN: They'll be playing "Red-Light Camera" on Saturday night's broadcast. In the better-late-than-never department, the song will be aired between 2 and 3 a.m. Closer to 3. I don't stay up that late, do you?

Did I mention that we're playing a show this Friday at the Media Club with Readymade and Windows '78? Well, now I did.

Another new review. This one appears on the Somewhere Cold site. It reads, in part: "Sometimes epochal, ethereal and sometimes noisy and edgy, Hinterland brings to the table a mixture of landscapes and explosive choruses and bridges....For fans of slo-core, space-rock, or shoegaze, this disc will certainly be an enjoyable one. I will be playing it over and over again as time goes on." Read the full review here.

If you're one of those freaks who insist on listening to radio on the Internet, check out Shoegazeradio.com. Great stuff, and if you listen long enough, you'll probably even hear a Hinterland song!

I just got word that, as of next week, our album is being added to the playlist at CKUL, which is the campus station at the University of Lethbridge. I enourage all of our fans in the Lethbridge area (if we have any) to call up the station and request some Hinterland.

We're number one! We're number one! Some anonymous music fan over on the New Music West board has decided that Hinterland is the worst band in Vancouver. Actually, I doubt this "Crusher" fellow has ever heard our music, but it's sort of an honour to make the same list as such fine bands as the Cinch and the Organ. "Crusher" is clearly not an indie rocker.

We're number 98! We're number 98! Our album currently sits in 98th place on the Earshot survey of the top 200 records at college radio in Canada.

Hey, we just got another review. This one's in the UK music magazine Logo. Michael Ornadet gave Under the Waterline four stars out of five, saying that it "burrows into your psyche like an insidious earworm, an irresistible invitation to stop, listen and absorb". Read the full review here.
