Is Alberta a foreign country? It sure seems like, because I just don't understand how to book a couple of gigs there. Hinterland is hoping to play in Calgary and Edmonton at the end of April, but from the underwhelming response we have gotten so far from bands and venues, it seems like no one is particularly interested in having us. Help... anyone?!

Also: we have April 9 free and are looking for a Victoria gig.

If you are an early riser, you can catch an interview with Hinterland on the University of Toronto radio station, CIUT, on Monday morning at 7:50 a.m. (Vancouver time). Listen online here. If you are in T.O., tune into 89.5 FM at 10:50 a.m.

We have a tendency to utilize certain words in this band that sort of become catch-all terms for a certain sound or aesthetic that we are striving for. While recording our forthcoming second album, that word was balls. We wanted certain things, especially the guitar sounds on some of the choruses to have balls. Lately, when we have been jamming and writing new stuff, the word angular keeps coming up. We have never been a particularly angular-sounding band, so it will be interesting to see where we go with this.

I have decided to start a Hinterland tribe at Tribe.net. Unlike this blog, which features items posted by members of Hinterland, the tribe will be meant for discussions between fans, with limited input from the band members (I'm the moderator). If you are interested in joining, please go here. I'll be adding photos and stuff soon.

There's still time to vote for Hinterland in the Chart Readers' Poll. Get your vote in before Thursday, Feb. 10. Do we expect to be able to compete against the likes of Avril Lavigne and Sum 41, who will no doubt win every category? No. But the more votes we get, the better our chances of getting noticed by those all-important editorial types. Could a Chart cover story on Hinterland be far behind?

Gregg rocks the shaker. This is from the very last day of recording for our next album, which took place at Greenhouse last Sunday. Posted by Hello

This is Interpol. Several members of Hinterland will be heading down to Seattle to see them play on Friday night. While we're there, we plan to pay a visit to Bamboo Garden, our favourite Seattle restaurant. Yum!

Our quest for a new member was mentioned in Chartattack.com's most recent Vancouver Buzz column. Looks like we are pretty close to making a major announcement in that regard. Stay tuned.

And, further to our distribution woes, here is the direct link to info on purchasing Under the Waterline from HybridElectric.

It has been brought to our attention recently that people have had difficulty finding Under the Waterline in their local stores, including right here in Vancouver. We are hoping to remedy this situation, but in the meantime, if you can't find our CD at a shop, please ask the manager to restock it. Our album is carried by several large distributors, but if they perceive that there is no demand for it, they will not make it available to the retailers. So if you want it, ask for it!

Alternatively, you can order the CD from HybridElectric Records (see link to the right), or buy a copy directly from us at one of our shows.
