A review of our CD was just posted on the Mundane Sounds Web site. Reviewer Joseph Kyle had this to say: "[T]his is the kind of record I listened to years ago, but haven't heard in quite a while, because nobody's making music quite this nice, this lovely, this dark and poppy any more--bands these days either get caught up with the singing, or they get hung up on being as 'weird' as possible with the music. Hinterland has found the perfect balance between the two, and this debut album is a pure joy." Read the full review here.

Possibly the most bizarre auction item on eBay. Or maybe not, since eBay seems to be crawling with loonies.

Oh man, how awesome does this Noise Pop festival in San Francisco sound? British Sea Power, the Decemberists, American Music Club, the Wrens... the list goes on and on. Sadly, there isn't anyone in Vancouver with the money/clout/balls to make something like that happen here. Don't believe it? Prove me wrong.

Pat Metheny has something to say. Required reading for Kenny G fans.

Under the Waterline is now available at A&B Sound. I highly encourage its purchase at said establishment.

I also encourage requesting our music at CITR. It is important that we receive the support of our local alternative stations, because lord knows we're not going to be played on the Fox anytime soon.

This is something of an Internet classic, but if you haven't already, meet Peter Pan.

I want this guitar. Why do I need another Strat? Because two isn't enough!

On the other hand, I might end up keeping my kooky Yamaha, the one I keep trying to hock on this blog, and use it for bowing. Stu from A Northern Chorus has a guitar he uses just for bowing. He only has the bottom three strings on it, so his bowing always sound neat and tidy, never sloppy (unlike a certain other guitarist). Yeah, I might just do that... but bows are damn expensive, so I guess I'd better start saving up.

GUITAR FOR SALE
I'm just going to keep posting this until I sell this thing.
I am selling a vintage 1960s Yamaha SG-5A. It looks a lot like this one. I have recorded with this guitar; you can hear it on the song "Portrait of My Invention". It's a neat guitar, but I just never play it anymore, so I figured I'd sell it. If you're interested, please contact me.

In a bit of supreme weirdness, A&B Sound has decided to make our album available as a special order only, which means that if you order it, you'll have to wait six to eight weeks for it to arrive! It just seems really bizarre and wrong to me that Vancouver's biggest local music-retailing chain is treating a local band's CD as if it were a rare import item, even though it's available at other local shops. Maybe if enough people ask for the album by name (in person, via e-mail, or over the phone), A&B will wise up and start stocking it at the retail level.

Did you know that "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley was the number-one single in Canada on May 27, 1957? Or that Devo's "Whip It" peaked at number three on November 1, 1980? Well, I didn't know any of that stuff until I found this site, which archives the Canadian pop singles charts from May of 1957 to June of 1986. Why it doesn't go beyond those dates is anyone's guess, but if you're as a big a geek as I am, you'll find it fascinating.

Also of interest to music-trivia nerds is Julian's RockList Site, which is just what the name implies. This British site mostly lists critics' favourite albums and singles dating as far back as 1952, but also features lists of songs banned by the BBC and other noteworthy trivia.
