This is a piece of work by my new favourite artist,
Sara Ogilvie. Potential future Hinterland CD-cover artist? Maybe, if my fellow Hinterlanders also dig her work, and if we actually have a budget for artwork for our next album. Those are some mighty big IFs.
Dammit! I missed
the Delays, without even realizing they were coming! Me, the guy who's supposed to be on top of things! Oh well, they were opening for Franz Ferdinand (not interested) and it was a Sunday night after we had played a Saturday-night gig (I was exhausted). But still... the Delays were in town and I missed it! You can read what I (and possibly you) missed
here.
Well, maybe they'll come back and do a headlining show... with Hinterland opening, of course. Are you reading this blog, gig-booking powers-that-be in Vancouver?

Here's another one. This one is from "Inside-Outside".

Here's a picture of Michaela I found at the ZeD site. It is from our performance of "Tiger Tiger".
This is the design on our T-shirts. The men's shirts feature white printing on denim-blue cotton (in sizes medium, large, and XL). The women's shirts (in small and medium) are in light blue on navy. If you would like to buy one, and you aren't likely to be at one of our shows in the near future, please contact us
here and we'll figure something out.
This game is insanely addictive. I'm not sure I have it completely figured out, but it's pretty fun. Thanks to
Roger for posting the link on his own blog.
There are a couple of new songs up on the
Windows '78 New Music Canada page. Of particular interest to Hinterland fans is "Canada 3000", which features me on guitar, baritone guitar, synth, and glockenspiel, with Michaela on flute. These are just demo tracks, and they will (theoretically) be redone whenever Win78 gets around to doing an album.
WIPE OUT!
Everyone knows the song "Wipe Out", as recorded originally by the Surfaris and covered by every surf-rock band that ever existed. But do you know the decades of charlatanry the song and its creators inspired? Read all about that
here. After you're read that story, you might be interested to visit the homepages of the two bands currently calling themselves the Surfaris,
here and
here. Not to be confused with
these guys!
Remember that old Yamaha guitar I was trying to sell on here a few months back? It was a lot like
this one. Well, I finally sold it, through Not Just Another Music Shop. Apparently it was
this guy who bought it.
We just updated our
New Music Canada page by adding a couple of songs from
Under the Waterline that have never been available there before. They are the shortened version of "Aspidistra" (sans ambient intro) and "Red-Light Camera". Old faves "Tiger Tiger" and "Divebomb" are also still there for your streaming pleasure.
Our next show will at the
Piccadilly Pub on Saturday, September 25. We will be joined by
Windows '78 and
Jonathan Inc. And
you. The Pic will be fresh from
renovations, so come down and check it out!
On the Friday before the gig, we will be appearing as guests on the Radio Bandcouver show on
Co-op Radio (CFRO 1027 FM). We'll be on from 10 to 11 p.m., spinning tunes by all the bands and other favourite local acts. We'll also be giving away a copy of our album and one of our new T-shirts to one lucky caller, so tune in to win!

Kyle tunes up, or something. Kyle loves having his picture taken.

Our lovely home. Martha Stewart, eat your heart out!

Gregg and Kyle arrive.

I pulled this record (on vinyl!) out the other day and gave it a spin. Hard to believe it came out 25 years ago. Damn, it still sounds good. Some of the songs have stood the test of time better than others, but overall, it is still a fantastic-sounding album. The best tracks are "Message in a Bottle" and "Walking on the Moon".

An artsy (i.e., out-of-focus) self-portrait by Michaela.

Gregg: He Bangs the Drums.

Cam likes his pedals too.
In the last edition of the Hinterland e-mail newsletter (which you can sign up for
here), I told everyone to watch for our ads in the September issues of
Exclaim! and
Discorder. The
Exclaim! ad is on page 73. As for
Discorder, well, we paid for an ad in the September issue, but it never showed up. There was a royal screw-up, and it wasn't at our end. But I don't want to point any fingers. Anyhow, watch for that ad in the October issue instead.
