Hinterland's blog

If you are in the Vancouver area, pick up the Georgia Straight and the Province today for articles on Hinterland. Or just follow the links in the previous sentence. Incidentally, the Province story mentions that Hinterland had a song in the Lynne Stopkewich movie Kissed. Not true, but we have licensed a song to The Life, a CTV Movie of the Week directed by Stopkewich. As soon as we find out the air date for The Life, we will post it on our News page.

Everybody loves lists, especially at this time of year. The folks at Rolling Stone have posted their pick of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Mostly pretty predictable, but there are enough weird picks to piss off everybody. For instance, what's with putting the Ramones at number 33, when the Sex Pistols don't even make the top 40? Discuss amongst yourselves. Meanwhile, in a crazy bit of revisionism, the folks at Pitchfork have decided to completely overhaul their "Top 100 Albums of the 1990s", first posted in 1999. Wow, talk about second-guessing yourself! The '90s are over! Get over it, already!
Anyhow... speaking of year-end lists, it's not too late to pick up the latest issue of Discorder and vote for Hinterland in the year-end music poll. Hint hint hint...

Today is the official release date of our album! Woo-hoo! Well, it's a little anticlimactic, given that we still don't have any copies of the CD (thanks, UPS!), but I thought I'd share the news. Have we gone double platinum yet?

Our forthcoming album, Under the Waterline, has received its first review, posted on the site of the Italian indie-music magazine Losing Today. Reviewer Paul Valentine, writing about a preview copy of the album, had this to say: "Both beautiful and evocative, this album preview from Hinterland demands attention with its deep strings and gentle strumming."

The November issue of Discorder features, on page 31, a year-end music poll. If you feel so inclined, pick up a copy and vote for Hinterland in the Best Local Band of the Year and Best Gig of the Year categories. We'd sure appreciate it. For some reason the online version of Discorder hasn't been updated since July, so it looks like you'll have to pick up a copy of the actual magazine.
