The Purple Onion, a Vancouver venue where Hinterland played many of its earliest gigs (and even a couple of recent ones), has been sold, and it looks as if, even if it stays open under that name, it won't be the same place. This could be a good thing, since the Purple Onion, cool place though it was, was never known as a hot spot for live music. Maybe the new owners will change that. Or maybe they'll decide that what Vancouver really needs is yet another in a seemingly endless parade of dance clubs. Time will tell. Read about it here.
